Q: Why is the Library offering Udemy? What happened to Lynda.com?

We're excited to bring you the eLearning resource Udemy, presented by Gale!

Changes in eLearning platforms

In 2019 Lynda.com’s parent company LinkedIn announced that they would be shutting down the Lynda.com platform and migrating Lynda content to the LinkedIn Learning platform, a paid service through LinkedIn. The new LinkedIn Learning option presented to libraries in 2019 had considerable changes to the terms of use and did not fully align with Library policies and values of ensuring access and privacy. The Library immediately began evaluating eLearning services for an alternative learning experience that would respect patron access and privacy.

At the end of 2019, Gale announced a new partnership with Udemy to bring libraries the Udemy Business curated collection of online courses, plus an international collection. Gale is a Cengage Learning company that has a long-standing history of working with libraries and developing digital access resources that aligns with library values. Udemy has been on the market since 2010, featuring expert instructors providing up-to-date, video-based courses covering a wide variety of in-demand topics. We're exited to add Udemy, presented by Gale, to our eLearning resources.
