Q: Can I use the Library's recycle bins for my recyclable materials?

The Library’s trash and recycle bins are not intended to be for public use, and unfortunately, trash and other non-recyclable materials were often put in recycle bins by mistake. The contents of these bins cannot be resorted by Waste Management, so the recycling ends up in the landfill and the Library is assessed a fine. As part of the Library’s larger sustainability efforts, our bins will be locked and for custodial staff only. This ensures all materials can be appropriately recycled.

There are several recycling drop-off centers in Johnson County, including:

Overland Park Center at 11921 Hardy St, Overland Park, KS 66213.

The Customer Convenience Center at the Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee also offers free recycling services, in addition to trash and bulky item disposal for a fee.
