Q

Can I return Kansas City Public Library books at Johnson County Library locations?

I heard about account linking. Does that mean I can return Kansas City Public Library books at Johnson County Library locations (or vice versa) or place holds on KCPL books and pick them up at JCL locations?

Answer

At the moment, if you place a hold on a Johnson County Library item, you must pick it up at a JCL location. If you place a hold on a Kansas City Public Library item, you must pick it up at a KCPL location. You cannot return KCPL items at JCL location, or vice versa. The account linking at the moment is just an easier way for you to manage your two library cards under one catalog username. This means you can switch back and forth between the two catalogs and use all of the eLibrary resources after only logging in once.

You are not automatically searching both catalogs - you need to toggle back and forth between Kansas City Public Library's catalog and JoCoLibrary's catalog. You can do that from your dashboard and your settings pages.

***Mid-Continent Public Library will be available for account linking in early 2017.***
