For information on the Country Club Plaza holiday lights, including origin of the lighting tradition, see the Local History Vertical File, in the "Country Club Plaza - 1980's" folder, the article by Jacki Gray entitled City Lights, copied from the Nov.-Dec. 1984 issue of Missouri Life magazine.

Plaza holiday lights origin (from pg. 2 of the article): "It all started in 1925, on a much smaller scale than the present day miracle of lights. When Charles Pitrat hung the first single strand of colored bulbs over a doorway, he could have no concept of what his effort at Christmas good will would bring in years to come."

Citations to other articles and historical photos are also available on the Kansas City (Missouri) Public Library's Local History site. Search "Plaza Lights".
